I will say, it is not the story or the psychology of the story that hooked me, but the prose. Dear lord, Nabokov knows how to wield the English language better than any author/writer I have ever seen (which is especially amazing considering that English was what - his *fourth* language?).
I was completely spellbound, ever since the opening paragraph, and the book just never let me go.
I've read other Nabokov works as well, and enjoyed them (such as Pale Fire, which is also beautifully written), but this is the only one where the prose grabbed me in such a prolific way (maybe because it was the first that I was exposed to?).
Humbert Humbert may disgust you, but Nabokov will completely seduce you when you read Lolita.
